The Virtual Pediatric Airways Workbench, or VPAW, is an application geared towards allowing surgeons and other medical professionals to simulate and interact with airways constructed from segmented CT scans. Users will be able to use a PHANTOM haptic device in conjunction with stereoscopic views to navigate and interact with the structure of the airways. VPAW is intended to provide medical professionals with an interface to test various surgical techniques before performing them on live patients. The methods used to interact with the airways are focused on adapting the haptic device to manipulate geometry. We perform regular user studies with medical professionals to focus our efforts on features that will be directly beneficial to their work.
